Does it have a regulator that lets you control the length of lead? Mine all have that function and it can really help cut down on the lead breakage.

I used 2H hard lead pencils. The ones you sharpen though so the lead never really breaks on me. And since it's 2H hardlead the smudges are way minimal.

I got it at Wal-Mart. I told myself no more cheap stuff, so I'm gonna look for a good one online. ;)

Gio, please tell me that isn't so! You've got to get a decent mechanical pencil. Please, do it for me. Those sharpenable pencils aren't ideal for drawing.

lol yeah Steven it's so. I don't really know the difference. But since it's you I'll see about purchasing some mechanical hardlead pencils. I'm just curious what the difference is between the two. Is it the fact I have to sharpen the pencil everyonce in awhile? Let me know I'm still learnin ya know lol :)

Oh and I read this just in time too Steven! This weekend I was drawing Eternal at my friend's restaurant at the local flea market, and this mexican guy saw me workin. He asked me if I could draw him a scorpion. I never drew one before but I gave it a shot with a quick 10 second sketch. He liked what he saw and asked me to draw him a scorpion standing on top of a skull. I hooked that pic up real nice. I had the one of the scorpion's claws looking like it was coming towards the viewer ( I used alot of foreshortening for this pic) and the other claw was draped over the far side of the skull behind it. I drew the skull with cracks all over it and an angry evil look to it. Think how McFarlane draws his eyes on Spawn. And suprisingly inking for a tattoo design isn't much different from inking manga and comics! lol So it came out great. I told him he's gonna be in alot of pain getting a detail tattoo like this lol He said the pain will be worth it lol He gave me the 10 bucks and his email address so I can send him my Myspace and official site link. He said he'd tell his friends about me if they need anything :) So yeah made 10 bucks. So I got some money to buy a few supplies. :) Hopefully more work to come :D

PS- I'm REALLY glad I didn't have to ink that tattoo design, I definitly would have charged him more for that lol The design took up two whole pages from my 11 x 14 sketchpad

Ok, I think I told you guys that I was hauling ass to complete a manga for the Kodansha contest, but didn't make the deadline. I was trying to go for a 25-30 (maybe 35) page short story about a woman returning home to the Navajo Nation, 17 years after it leaves the United States, becoming its own country. It's all set in the year 2032, but has scenes in 2015, when the woman is a little girl, living with her Grandmother before moving to Japan with her father.

I have about 9 pages done, so I might as well complete it, right? I figured if I submit a short story, publishers will see what I have to offer, then maybe later on I can pitch my Saku to them. What do you think, Steven

Tell whatever story you feel the most compelled to draw. Those always end up being the best. I'd like to do so, but I'm stuck drawing other people's books at the moment (I'm actually working on my own short story for a certain unnamed company...I just don't have anytime to do much work on it...). Anyway, the only thing to make sure is you draw what you know. That'll help keep it real feeling. Editors can usually pick up on that.
Good luck!

The mechanical pencils have a lot of control. Think of them as a bicycle after the training wheels are taken off. That's cool about the flee market! I hope you can find more work like that!

That is great, Gio. I remember designing a tattoo for someone. I just hope that he didn't get it done, cuz lol  if I 'member correctly, it looked horrible. I wasn't a good artist, but my friend was raving about my skills to this guy and he wanted me to draw out something for him. I didnt' get paid for it too, which he promised to do.

Thank you. I think I will continue with this idea. I mean, I''ll still sketch out pages for Saku, but I believe that people will be drawn to this one, cuz I don't see any native american mangas out there, especially futuristic ones. Not only that, I'm going for a story that'll relate to everyone that still have this unique bond with loved ones over great distances and time.

I'll try to post or start a new thread about my new manga. Talk to you guys later. Keep up the good work with CSI Steven.

I am keeping up with the good work. Thanks for noticing. I think your idea about native american comics warrants some exploration. What do you have in mind?
